News for KSBP

There is a new tower manager, effective September 1. Bill O'Connell retired from the SB Tracon after 27 years with the FAA.

Apron work will continue on the east side until February 1. At that time transient parking will again be on the east side—at least until the new terminal is built. Work will then begin on Taxiway A. Sometime between Feb 1 and Mar 15 the taxiway will be closed for 10 days between Foxtrot and Gulf. That means that backtaxiing will be required for full length departures on Rwy 29.

The FAA Runway Safety Access Team visited KSBP. Using Rwy 25 as an exit from Rwy 29 is "non-standard" and they are requiring a change to the procedure. In the near future, new markings will be put on the runway and a guideline drawn to Taxiway E. The FAA wants the airport to establish a runway safety committee, so contact Bill at the tower if you'd like to be on it.

A developer is making the rounds with a proposal to buy the Oceano airport and put up housing. You might want to be on the lookout for their proposals.

The next meeting of the Airport Safety Committee and Airport Tenants Organization is January 13, 2010.
